Your gadgets will be worthless. “In a moment,” the Bible says, “in the twinkling of an eye” the end will come. There will not be time to call friends or loved ones. There will not be time to send one final email to say goodbye or “prepare to meet thy God.” Our cell phones, our laptops, and our gadgets which now seem so powerful and time-consuming will all be rendered useless with the coming power of an omnipotent God! For when the end comes, He is all that will matter!
Escape will not be an option. Since the beginning, the mightiest people have tried to escape and hide themselves from God (cf. Gen. 3:8; I Sam. 10:22; Rev. 6:14-17; 20:11). Many will try to with futility to escape in that day when “the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ”. When the end comes, you can stand with joy rather than terror!
You will fall to your knees and your tongue will confess. Throughout the ages many have bowed and given their allegiance and homage to all manner of men and women. Bowing and showing honor has always been freely given by the individual. However, when the world ends, the Lord says,
“EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO ME AND EVERY TONGUE SHALL CONFESS TO GOD. So then each of us shall give account of himself to God” (Rom. 14:11-12).
When the end comes, you should not fall to your knees in regret before your Judge!
Your life will be made known before all. When the world ends, all of the hidden motives, attitudes, and works will be laid down for all to see by Him who searches the heart and mind (I Chr. 28:9; Ps. 44:20-21; Rev. 20:11-15). When all stand before the great white throne, what will be revealed in your heart and your life? When the end comes, you should not cower in shame of your life on that final day!
You’ll go on to your reward. When the world ends, Christ will sit down upon His throne of glory surrounded by His holy angels, and He will separate the people in the nations as a shepherd divides the sheep from the goats (Mat. 25:31-ff). Those on the left will be sent into everlasting torment for the crime of sin. There will be no relief, no end, and no more chances (Luke 16:24-26; Mark 9:43-48; Rev. 21:8). God doesn’t want this end for anyone (II Pet. 3:9). He has provided a way to stand “right” before Him through Jesus (Rom. 5:1-9). When the end comes, eternal life will be only for those who have believed and obeyed Him faithfully (Mark 16:16).
