We are thankful to be back home with you today, but also very appreciative of the time to be away. This trip was a combination of some final details related to my mother’s death, the chance to be spiritually fed and renewed at Harding’s Lectureship, and the chance to spend a few days catching our breath and recharging emotionally and physically after quite the world-wind of life-events over the last few months.
We were blessed to be able to be inspired by lectures and classes related to the book of Genesis, and as I reflected on our time away the text in the title of this article came to mind. God is so good, and His amazing creation was good in every way! I am thankful as I reflect on God’s goodness that we experienced over the last two weeks.
Job 12:7-10 7:
But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you; And the birds of the air, and they will tell you; 8 Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; And the fish of the sea will explain to you. 9 Who among all these does not know That the hand of the Lord has done this, 10 In whose hand is the life of every living thing, And the breath of all mankind? -NKJV
The hand of the Lord is visible all around us. Kerry and I were able to celebrate His hand of blessing as my brothers and I reflected on how blessed we were to have been raised by such godly parents.
Kerry and I stayed with dear friends in Searcy with whom we have had fellowship in the gospel of Jesus for about 30 years, and I was able to visit with teachers and mentors who made a strong impact in my life and ministry preparation 40 years ago.
We spent a few days in the mountains of Arkansas watching deer and turkeys and listening to many different kinds of birds. We hiked riverbeds and saw waterfalls and were once again overwhelmed at the majesty of God’s handiwork.
We finished our vacation time in fellowship with dear friends whom God put into our lives since our time together at Harding – eternal friendships that have brought us joy and encouragement in this life that are anchored in our shared faith and hope in Jesus.
Take time to reflect on evidence of the hand of the Lord this week! And give Him thanks!
