Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
The Hebrews writer declares that the Word of God is Alive! Paul declares how profitable that Word is! Peter describes it as “living and abiding.” (1 Peter 1:23)
What value have you been placing on the Word of God? The honest answer to that question will explain many things about your life and its present condition.
The early church placed great value in daily discipline for the apostles’ teaching/ doctrine (Acts 2:42). We are blessed to have the Word of God readily available to us in printed and digital format. The question for our hearts is do we have the desire and discipline for God’s Word!
During the reign of young king, Josiah, Hilkiah the high priest found the Book of the Law buried under the ruins and rubble of God’s temple. (2 Kings 22) When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes (v.11) as a sign of grief.
Our Shepherds have challenged each of us to read the Word of God every day! How sad that God’s people had wondered so far from the Law of God that it had become absent from their lives.
There are a great many competitors for the priorities of our lives. If we are not diligent and disciplined, it would be easy for the Word of God to simply become buried under the paraphernalia of our daily lives.
May we hunger daily for God’s Word so that our hearts can cry with the psalmist, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
