(I read this article during the sermon last week. I thought it would be good for you to be able to read it. It fits well with our sermon series from Joshua, and our Theme for 2025, “Go Forward: Be Strong and of Good Courage.”)
God has always wanted His people to go forward in doing His will. To be motionless, or go backward in His service, is to fail. (See. Rev. 3:15-16 and Lk. 9:61)
When the children of Israel gathered at the banks of the Red Sea, their hearts became faint when they realized that Pharaoh and his hosts were in pursuit. They began to cry unto the Lord. (Ex. 14:10) Moses attempted to bolster their courage with assurances that the Lord would be with them and fight for them. But the Lord evidently felt that time was wasting with all this negative talking, and said to Moses, “Wherefore criest thou unto me? Speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward!” (Verse 15)
Sometimes Christians today seem to falter or stall in doing the Lord’s work. It seems so easy for hearts to grow faint in view of all the obstacles and difficulties encountered. Thus, many spend much of their time moaning and complaining to their brethren and to God. Preachers ascend to the pulpit and utter many “words” to bolster courage. But I can’t help wondering if the Lord intended that His message to Israel be also for His people today? Could it be that He is saying to us… “Cease your crying and complaining, cast aside your defeatist attitude, lift up your eyes with vision, have implicit faith in Me, and GO FORWARD!”?
Brethren, time is wasting! Men are dying by the thousands every day whose souls are lost! We cannot turn deaf ears to their wailing of anguish! Let’s arise and GO FORWARD with the glad tidings of salvation as we’ve never done before!
