We Have Found Jesus!

In John 1, we find John the Baptist telling two disciples about Jesus, “Behold, the Lamb of God.” The disciples then followed Jesus and stayed with Him for the day. One of those disciples was Andrew. Verse 41 tells us, “The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). and he brought him to Jesus.” The next day Phillip began to follow Jesus, and verse 45 tells us, “Phillip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote – Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”” Good news is not for hoarding but for heralding! These men were anxious to tell others about Jesus!

In John 4 we find Jesus talking with a Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well. When He reveals Himself to her, we find that she, “…left her waterpot, and went into the city and said to the men, “Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is it?”” Her testimony led to a personal investigation and many came to believe in Jesus!

In his book, The Aroma of Christ, James Woodroof talks about fast growing movements. He states, “…the degree of growth in movements was a direct proportion to the ability of each to mobilize its entire membership for continuous evangelistic action. Too long has today’s well-established, socially acceptable church stifled its outreach by limiting the proclamation of the message to one focal point (the church edifice) and to one vocal point (the preacher in the pulpit)…”

A survey was taken that asked over 14,000 people the following question: “What or who was responsible for you coming to Christ and your church? Eight categories of answer were given, but the key issue is what percentage of people came to Christ and the church through each category listed. Here are the results: Special Need, 1-2%; Walk-In, 2-3%; Preacher, 5- 6%; Visitation, 1-2%; Sunday School, 4-5%; Evangelistic Outreach, 1/2- 1%; Church Program, 2-3%; Friend/Relative, 75-90%.
