Hallelujah, What a Savior!

Hallelujah, What a Savior!

In 1875, Philip P. Bliss wrote the words we have in our song book:

“Man of sorrows,” what a name for the Son of God who came

Ruined sinners to reclaim! Hallelujah, What a Savior!

Bearing shame and scoffing rude, in my place condemned He stood,

Sealed my pardon with His blood, Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Guilty, vile and helpless we; spotless Lamb of God was He;

“Full atonement!” Can it be? Hallelujah! What a Savior!

The fourth verse says:

Lifted up was He to die, “It is finished,” was His cry;

Now in heav’n exalted high, Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Our sermon this week is going explore the final words of Jesus from the cross that John records in his gospel, “It is finished!”

Take time to review these verses this week to remember and give thanks for all that Jesus was willing to go through so that you and I can have the hope eternal life.

Scourged – Matthew 27:26

Beaten Luke 22:63-64

Spit upon Matthew 27:30

Mocked Matthew 27:26-29

Nailed to the Cross – Matthew 27:38; John 20:25

Stripped Naked – Matthew 27:35

Beard Plucked from His Face – Isaiah 50:6

And if these weren’t powerful enough, the prophet Isaiah says,

Isaiah 52:14

As many were astonished at you— his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance, and his form beyond that of the children of mankind…

Isaiah 53: 2-3

There is no beauty that we should desire Him. He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.

What Great Love! What Great Sacrifice! What A Great Gift! Hallelujah! What a Savior! To God be the glory!
