The Declaration of Independence concludes with these words:
“And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”
It is easy for us to take our freedoms for granted, but the founders of this nation knew that success would only be possible through reliance on God’s divine providence and through their total commitment to serve and support the cause. And aren’t we thankful for their sacrifice.
The New Testament Church revealed in Scripture grew in the face of harsh persecution. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, they faithfully served Jesus, compassionately gave of themselves to support one another, and boldly proclaimed the gospel through great personal sacrifice. And aren’t we thankful for their sacrifice.
We sing the song, “I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus, No turning back, no turning back!”
Each of us as members of the Body of Christ at Graeber Road are at a great point in time to decide how we want our lives to Declare our Discipleship.
A new year is on the horizon. A new plan of work is being prayed for and planned out. Today we have opportunity to let our Shepherds know our financial support toward what we will ask God to do in us and through us in this new year. In the days ahead we will have opportunities to roll up our sleeves and volunteer to support the work to which we commit. In the days ahead we will have opportunities to show compassion to people we meet along life’s journey. In the days ahead we will have the opportunity to share the good news of Jesus with someone we befriend.
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21
May God be glorified through our trust placed in Him and our support of the work of His Kingdom! To God be the glory!
